Our client, Kids First Australia, is a highly respected child-centred and family-focused community services organisation that works with and supports children, young people and families. They are one of the most respected child welfare organisations in Australia with operations in VIC, NSW, SA and WA. They have acquired a distinguished reputation for leadership and innovation in the design and provision of early childhood education and care, children, youth and family services and prevention and recovery services. 

 

Currently undergoing a period of growth, they are seeking to appoint a new GM of Finance to work directly with the Director of Corporate Services.

This is a senior leadership role where you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Finance department with accountability for end-to-end accounting processes, as well as the financial governance, management reporting, audit, budgeting, compliance, risk management and forecasting for the organisation. The GM of Finance is a key business partner who will enable Kids First to meet its strategic objectives by ensuring there is sound financial planning, analysis and reporting in place.

 

Other key responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Maintaining effective financial management and accounting practices, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and requirements of governing bodies, and supporting annual audit.
  • Being part of the Senior Leadership Team, providing quality information and advice to the Director of Corporate Services, CEO and the Board as required.
  • Driving the preparation of the long-term financial plans, annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting process, including monitoring performance against adopted budgets, forecasts and plans, and reporting financial performance.
  • Overseeing cash flow forecasting for the organisation, and implementing cash management activities to support business needs.
  • Be a people developer, including supporting each member of the Finance Team to develop their skills and experience in finance and accounting, as well as budget owners across the business to develop their financial literacy.
  • Reviewing and improving all finance-related policies and processes ensuring they are effective and efficient, compliant with applicable standards and reduce organisational risk. 
  • Working closely with the Digital and Data team to implement finance-related initiatives from the Digital Transformation Strategy. 

 

The successful candidate will be CA/CPA qualified with tertiary qualifications in commerce/ or accounting, possess a track record of achievement in a finance leadership role where you have lead change and acted as business partner to senior leadership, with a focus on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and management reporting. Financial experience in the not-for-profit sector is highly desirable, particularly with organisations that derive revenue from government funding or grants. Experience in post-merger business operations would also be considered a plus. 

 

We are seeking an experienced finance leader who can provide exemplary financial leadership and skill in a service organisation, be outcomes focused and have proven experience managing teams and reporting to boards or sub committees. Your knowledge, skills and experience in financial management, governance, risk, and compliance in complex operational, legislative and regulatory environments will be highly regarded.
